My passion for design started early—by 6th grade, I knew I wanted to be an interior designer. After earning my degree, I worked with a residential designer before launching my own business in 1992, specializing in projects from planning to completion.

While I loved design, I craved a deeper creative process. That journey led me to Ann Schooler of Wolf Hall, where I was introduced to the world of decorative painting. When she mentioned needing the perfect finish for a Spanish bench, I created a sample—and that moment changed everything.

I began painting in my garage, transforming antique and custom furniture with centuries-old techniques. For three years, I worked exclusively for Ann, refining my craft before opening SMI Design + Fine Paint to other designers.

Thanks to Ann’s mentorship, I found my true passion—bringing designers’ visions to life through fine decorative painting. While I still take select design clients, my heart lies in collaborating with designers to create stunning, hand-finished pieces.
